The Servant Song
If you experienced a spiritual heritage in your childhood, you know it has a uniqueness to it- mine involved singing hymns, at home, as I played the piano, at church, with our life group. The first date Lloyd and I had was a hymn sing!
Many years later, at a wedding, I heard The Servant Song by David Haas. As you read the words of this hymn, they make sense for a wedding. Plug some of your other roles into the lyrics and see how they speak to you.

What comes to mind as you read this hymn in that context?
Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too.
We are pilgrims on the journey
We are travellers on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load.
I will hold the Christ light for you
In the night time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through.
Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
To let you be my servant too.
My prayer –
Lord, as you have designed us Christians to be your hands and feet in this world, show us how to live out the meaning of these lyrics in our everyday lives. No two lives the same, yet each of us indwelt with your Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord that apart from you we can do nothing; but with you (withness), all things are possible.
Amen.
